Turns Out College Auditions Are Really Fun When You're Not Auditioning. Who Knew?

Something I get told a lot is that I overload my schedule between work, rehearsals, friends, academics, and self-care time. I'm essentially running non-stop 24/7. So what did I do to try and ease that burden? If you guessed "Get a new job that takes away even more of your limited free time?" you'd be spot on!

This semester I started the job "Head of Student Recruitment" for Rowan University's Theatre and Dance Department. This means I get to coordinate and run auditions for potential students, manage all the students on scholarships who assist with department auditions, and assist professors with recruitment efforts.

Due to that position, I got to manage the Mid Atlantic Regional College Auditions (MARCAS) this past weekend, coordinating and managing about 100 student workers while facilitating the execution of the two day event. This means I was running around like a headless chicken in Wilson and Business Hall, anticipating problems, putting out metaphorical fires, and ensuring that all auditioning students and their families had the best day they possibly could have all the while making sure the 50 to 60 programs that came had everything they needed for success. And I have to say, it was an absolute blast! I've worked this event in the past in various roles, so now getting to be in-charge of some parts of it was such a unique experience. What made it even better was it being somewhat of a full circle moment for me since I auditioned at MARCAS my junior year of high school.

It was a roaring success on all accounts and I'm so proud of the work we put into it. It wouldn't have been doable without my two assistants, Sophie Creed and Kat Sabella and I cannot wait for the rest of the department auditions to occur. Here's hoping I have the energy for tomorrow's Open House with the Admissions Department!
